Art 6 Photography

When I went to Taipei during spring break, I decided to take pictures. I decided to write a reflection about my atypical angle because I wanted to talk about my process and how I came up with this photo because it is unexpected.

This is my atypical angle photo. I took this picture right in front of Taipei 101! Outside of the tower, they built a short tower out of translucent colored bricks. This picture was taken from the side looking up to the sky. I took this photo because I felt it would be a great atypical angle photo for art. When I took this photo, I found that even though it was a multi-colored wall, it came out gray, without editing! I felt it really represented an atypical angle.

Reflection Questions

     I. For the picture above, it showed atypical angle and it also showed rule of thirds. It showed atypical angle because instead of showing the face of the wall, it showed it as if we were against it and looking up. It also showed rule of thirds because the second-to-top horizontal line was in line with the top of the wall.
II. If I did this assignment again, I would just retake a couple pictures in case one was blurry.
III. The texture picture was my favorite because I changed it so much but it still looked amazing.

Art 6 Name Design

In art class, we created a name design that portrays our interests. To start this assignment, the first thing we did was sketch 4 different possibilities for our name design.

After we finished the 4 ideas we conferenced with Mr. K to select the best design to make into our copy to trace for our final copy.

Next, we spent a few lessons learning techniques using different art media like color pencil, oil pastel, acrylic paint, and watercolor.

1. What was the best part about this assignment?
The best part was finishing the final because I felt accomplished and I was happy that all of my hard work paid off to create amazing artwork, in my opinion.

2. What was the most challenging part of this assignment?
The most challenging part of the project was when I was doing the background for my final because I had to ombre the background while trying not to paint my name, apps or edge of the iPad.

"Hardinge, McComb, Munden & Co" Parent Viewing & Personal Reflection

My mom and I looking at Hardinge, McComb, Munden & Co. "You take a rest, we'll give you the best!"

I already knew what interest was because my dad told me about interest and when my dad was helping my sister with homework one time, I overheard what interest was. I learned how to calculate interest, and I learned more about percentages. I learned how to calculate interest and I wondered if my mom and dad got interest...what percentage, if they got any at all. I feel that I learned many new things in this unit/project and I feel that, in the future, I will be more interested with the deals banks make and the interest, I think, in the future, I will be more interested in whatever banks do because they always know just how much interest to give, they know just how much they should lend out and they know how to avoid crisis of everyone taking their money at once. One thing I wonder is if my parents have interest and if they did, why they haven't explained it already because I find interest very INTERESTing!

Water Service Project Updates: April 2 To April 28

Week #3: April 17-23 (Sunday to Sunday)

By the end of this week, Tanisha Mehta and I had finished our project. We did the bake sale and we were a huge hit! We sold out in 10 minutes and made over $70. We decided, as a group, that all of our earnings would go to lifewater.org.  With all the money we earned, we found we could save about two children's lives. Besides that, we just finished our slide presentation and are ready for anything!

Week #2: April 10-17 (Sunday to Sunday)

As this week started, my partner, Tanisha Mehta and I made some pretty drastic changes. We have decided that. instead of meeting with a 5th-grade class, we would only present to our science class/wherever else we have to present. We are still going to use our board game idea and present it to our classmates. If they get it right, the will get a reward and a smaller one if they got it wrong, so everyone feels like a winner. We will also donate the money we will receive by joining into the bake sale. We have made no other changes so far and feel very confident of how our project is going so far.

Week #1: April 3-10 (Sunday to Sunday)

As this week started, my partner, Tanisha Mehta and I already had an idea in mind. We were thinking of making cupcakes on April 17 to sell on the 20th or 21st, but instead of just selling cupcakes, we were thinking of making the frosting blue to represent water and finding a way to put a fact in or on the cupcake itself.
Along with our idea for making the cupcakes, we were also thinking of meeting with a 5th-grade class to raise awareness to the younger generation. While making the cupcakes, we were thinking about making a board game which will be easy because we have already made a template for it.
When it came to the design of the board game, My partner came up with the best idea where, when someone rolled the dice, they would move that number of spots and then if the landed on a question (not put in yet), you would answer it and if you got it right you would get to do your next turn. If you got it wrong you would miss a turn. If you didn't land on a question, you just play as you normally would, next time it is  your turn, you roll.
Because we know that 5th graders need some interactive activities, we were thinking of bringing them downstairs to do a water race.We were thinking of having two equal teams and have each team have a full bucket of water. When we start the race, they will pick up the bucket and walk/run straight, walk around the cone, walk back to the next person and hand it off. The point of this activity is to show them how heavy water could be and to show them how much spills when they try to go very fast.
Back to the board game, we were thinking of coming back upstairs after the water activity to play the game. We thought of doing it in this order because the children have longer to think about the information we give them before the activity. So, we are thinking of saying all the important facts, doing the water project and playing the board game. At the end of the game, we are thinking f giving the winner a prize, and because I thought all the students would want something I just thought of giving the anything-but-first-place students a smaller, but still cool, prize

So far in week 1, that is all I have done and thought of. My partner and I still have to make a few more decisions, but I think it will work out great. Even though we have the 5th-grade-class idea, we still must ask the teacher we have picked. Thank you, Mr. O!

Math Challenges

Challenge 1:

On a math quiz, Ben was supposed to find X + Y. Instead, he calculated X - Y, so of course what he got, 100, was wrong. Lucky for him, his answer came out to be exactly 1/4 the correct answer, so his teacher gave him 1/4 of the points as partial credit. What is X?

Answer #1:

100=1/4 of 400 so the correct answer was 400 so that means that X + Y is 400. If X + Y is 400 then X - Y is 100, which means that the total for X and Y somehow add up to 400 total and Y somehow makes X into 100. When I worked it out on a piece of paper, I figured out that if X was 250 and Y was 150 and you subtracted X - Y, you would get 100 and X + Y would be 400. Therefore, I think X is 250 and Y is 150 (100 is 1/4 of 400, so 400 is the correct X + Y answer).

Challenge #2:

Mr. Smith gave an exam to his honors math class. The exam was worth 225 points, and it contained 50 questions. Some of the questions were worth 3 points and some questions were worth 8 points. How many of each question were on the exam?

Answer #2:

I believe that the test had 35 questions worth 3 points and 15 questions worth 8 points. I think this because if you do 35 x 3, you get 105 and then if you multiply 15 x 8, you get 120. Then I added 105 + 120 to get 225 points with 50 questions, and that is why I think the exam had 35 questions that were 3 points and 15 questions that were 8 points on the exam Mr. Smith gave.

Hardinge, McComb, Munden & Co

Hardinge, McComb, Munden & Co
You take a rest, we'll give you the best!

What if you could multiply your income? What if you could earn $1,000,000 by sitting around for 47 years? Would you do it? Well, if you join Hardinge, McComb, Munden & Co, all of your dreams will come true. We have had many clients join our bank by putting in 1,000 dollars a year. We give them 12% interest and they retire 47 years later with over $1,000,000 dollars!

We have many clients come in to us and explain that in the past they have put their money under the bed for 47 YEARS! When they told us this we explained to them that if you don't add more money to it and you don't take any out from under your bed, you will still have the same amount you put in the box in the first place.

We also have some clients that say they put $1200 into a different bank and got 5% interest. They say that every year they put in %1200 and got 5% interest of of the new total. They say that after 47 years they only had $12,000.

We responded to all of those clients that instead of investing in a box under your bed or another bank, they should invest in our bank, Hardinge, McComb, Munden & Co! We give 10% interest of of whatever you invest in our bank. Those clients put their money n and had no more uh-ohs. By the end of their career at age 65, they all had more than $1,000,000.

Even though they had lived their life from 18 to 65 investing with us, they still always asked, "I like that I am getting more money off my money, but how is that possible? Can you show me an example?" We take out scrap paper and write down a 5 by 2 chart. We write "%" in the top left box and "$" in the bottom left box. We write out 100 over 1000, 10 over 100, 5 over 50 and 105 over 1050. We explain that the person in the example put $1000 in the bank and got 5% interest. 100/10 is 10 and 1000/10 is 100 so that is where the $100 comes from. Then 10/2 is 5 and 100/2 is 50 which is where the $50 comes from. Then 100% + 5% is 105%, 1000 + 50 is $1050. We talked through and said that for their investments, they put in $1200 and got 10% interest so they got $1200 + $120 which means they got $1320 after one year. Then, because they put in $1200 a year, we add $1200 to $1320 to get $2520 before 10% of THAT for year 2 interest. After we explained all of this to the client they were much happier that they knew how we did everything.

They also asked us what benefits of investing is, and I told them that you eanr money by doing nothing. You just have to put it in a bank. I told them it was much better than putting it under your bed because you don't have to do anything and you get more money back than you put in, unlike putting it under your bed. I told them that that is pretty much what interest is, earning money from your money.

Many of our clients want to know how you get ore savings than the previous year, and all I tell them is that interest is not getting a percentage of only the original deposit, but of the total that is in the bank at that time. If there is $2520 and you get 10% interest, you get 10% of $2520, not the orginal $1200 you put in when you first depositted. So you would get $2772 before you add another $1200, and when you do you get 10% of your new tootal depositted by the bank into your account.
