Week #3: April 17-23 (Sunday to Sunday)
By the end of this week, Tanisha Mehta and I had finished our project. We did the bake sale and we were a huge hit! We sold out in 10 minutes and made over $70. We decided, as a group, that all of our earnings would go to lifewater.org. With all the money we earned, we found we could save about two children's lives. Besides that, we just finished our slide presentation and are ready for anything!
Week #2: April 10-17 (Sunday to Sunday)
As this week started, my partner, Tanisha Mehta and I made some pretty drastic changes. We have decided that. instead of meeting with a 5th-grade class, we would only present to our science class/wherever else we have to present. We are still going to use our board game idea and present it to our classmates. If they get it right, the will get a reward and a smaller one if they got it wrong, so everyone feels like a winner. We will also donate the money we will receive by joining into the bake sale. We have made no other changes so far and feel very confident of how our project is going so far.
Week #1: April 3-10 (Sunday to Sunday)
As this week started, my partner, Tanisha Mehta and I already had an idea in mind. We were thinking of making cupcakes on April 17 to sell on the 20th or 21st, but instead of just selling cupcakes, we were thinking of making the frosting blue to represent water and finding a way to put a fact in or on the cupcake itself.
Along with our idea for making the cupcakes, we were also thinking of meeting with a 5th-grade class to raise awareness to the younger generation. While making the cupcakes, we were thinking about making a board game which will be easy because we have already made a template for it.
When it came to the design of the board game, My partner came up with the best idea where, when someone rolled the dice, they would move that number of spots and then if the landed on a question (not put in yet), you would answer it and if you got it right you would get to do your next turn. If you got it wrong you would miss a turn. If you didn't land on a question, you just play as you normally would, next time it is your turn, you roll.
Because we know that 5th graders need some interactive activities, we were thinking of bringing them downstairs to do a water race.We were thinking of having two equal teams and have each team have a full bucket of water. When we start the race, they will pick up the bucket and walk/run straight, walk around the cone, walk back to the next person and hand it off. The point of this activity is to show them how heavy water could be and to show them how much spills when they try to go very fast.
Back to the board game, we were thinking of coming back upstairs after the water activity to play the game. We thought of doing it in this order because the children have longer to think about the information we give them before the activity. So, we are thinking of saying all the important facts, doing the water project and playing the board game. At the end of the game, we are thinking f giving the winner a prize, and because I thought all the students would want something I just thought of giving the anything-but-first-place students a smaller, but still cool, prize
So far in week 1, that is all I have done and thought of. My partner and I still have to make a few more decisions, but I think it will work out great. Even though we have the 5th-grade-class idea, we still must ask the teacher we have picked. Thank you, Mr. O!
